In recent days, the Western Reserve Academy boys soccer team experienced something it hadn’t experienced the entire season.

The Pioneers’ glittering winning percentage took a bit of a hit with two straight losses in the last several days.

On Thursday, Reserve got back to its winning ways. And the Pioneers did so against one of the best teams in the state.

Host WRA earned a 1-0 victory over former state champion Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy.

Keagan LeRoux’s goal in the first half proved to be the difference for the Pioneers, who improved to 12-4 in 2018. The Royals dropped to 11-4.

Reserve goalkeeper Marcello Issa finished with three saves. CVCA goalie Isaiah Slabaugh stopped four shots.

WRA had a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal and both teams had four corner kicks.
