The Hudson boys golf team’s season has come to an end.
The Explorers finished eighth with a score of 319 at a 20-team Division I district tournament Monday at Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinckley.
The top four teams and top four individuals not on qualifying teams advanced to the state competition.
Massillon Jackson won the tournament with a score of 302. Akron Archbishop Hoban (305), Cleveland St. Ignatius (307) and Walsh Jesuit (308) also advanced.
Walsh’s Ben Cors and Green’s Maxwell Moldovan earned medalist honors with a 71. A total of 120 golfers competed.
Ben Basta, a 2017 state qualifier, led Hudson finished in a tie for 14th place with a 76. Also playing for the Explorers, who were the runners-up in the Suburban League National Conference, were junior Greg Madar (tied for 41st, 79), freshman Coop Pamer (tied for 56th, 81) and junior Burke Villenauve (tied for 70th, 83).
"We shot 21 shots better than last year," Hudson head coach Dave Kurtz said. "We had a good start, solid middle and a not so good finish on the 17th and 18th holes. Last year, we were not competitive at districts. This year, we were.
"We showed great improvement this season. We will need to continue to improve to have the opportunity to win a conference championship. Then we can focus on advancing out of districts."
