Now, senior Susie Fan and sophomore Laura Nijhuis have a chance for greater glory in the postseason.
The third-seeded Explorers’ doubles team of Fan and Nijhuis advanced to Division I district play after earning two victories during the Medina sectional competition Thursday at Springside Racquet and Fitness Club in Akron.
The duo advanced after posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Brecksville-Broadview Heights’ team of Alana Thomas and Kristen Dolansky in the quarterfinals.
Fan and Nijhuis, who played first and second singles throughout the season, are scheduled to play second-seeded Walsh Jesuit’s Lily Joyce and Emma Kealy in the semifinals, which are scheduled for Saturday at Springside. Play is set for 9 a.m.
Fan and Nijhuis also earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Medina’s Maggie Selva and Lillian Kim to reach the quarterfinal round.
Hudson’s other doubles team’s also was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
The team of junior Jennifer Grainger and sophomore Katie Tuttle lost to the fourth-seeded Walsh duo of Tatum Carmichael and Katie Devine 6-2, 6-3.
In singles’ play, Explorers’ freshman Sunny Fan lost a 7-5, 6-3 decision to third-seeded Paige Meyers of Medina in the quarterfinals.
