After suffering a difficult loss to a Suburban League National Conference rival a few days earlier, the Hudson girls soccer team responded in a big way against a quality team on the road.
The Explorers improved to 5-2 in 2018 after posting a 2-1 victory over host Copley in a Suburban League crossover showdown Saturday.
Maddie Coates gave Hudson a 1-0 lead on an assist from Anna Campanella. Lexi Muccino added a goal in the second half on a corner kick from Kierstin Havens.
The Indians got on the board, thanks to an own goal. The Explorers, who lost to Nordonia 1-0 Wednesday at Hudson Memorial Stadium, had an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
Hudson goalie Lily Morgan finished with two saves.
"Our defense played great," Explorers head coach Chris Gentille said. "Meredith Liechty, Kate Saxer, Abby Kern, Kali Sweet, and Hady Truesdail all played outstanding against their top player, Maia Ransom, who’s attending Cleveland State next season.
"Our defense played one its best games of the season so far."
