The Blue Devils’ unbeaten streak in dual meets continued.

The Tallmadge boys golf team improved to 4-0 in 2018 after earning a 163-179 victory over Akron Firestone Tuesday at Brookledge Golf Course in Cuyahoga Falls.

Darin Hudak led the Blue Devils with a 35, which included an eagle on the first hole, to earn medalist honors. Brandon Gray was next for Tallmadge with a 38. He also had an eagle on the first hole as did the Falcons’ Aaron Lux.

"Never in my 18 years as a high school golf coach have I been involved in a match where three of the first eight players off the first tee made eagle on that hole," Blue Devils head coach Jon Shomo said. "It happened due to an 80-foot putt from the fringe from Darin, a five-footer from Brandon and a 30-yard pitch from Aaron Lux.

"Darin continued his strong steady play with two bogeys and six pars in addition to the eagle. Brandon set his own career mark for best nine-hole match score."

The match was affected by high winds and 90-degree temperatures.

Also contributing to Tallmadge’s team score were Noah Bowser (43) and Jake Reifsnyder (47).

"Noah fought hard and continues to look for the iron game to return," Shomo said. "Reif birdied No. 8 along the way and Luke (Caruso) is improving his ball-striking."
