It took much longer than anyone hoped, but the Cuyahoga Falls softball team finally got on the field.
As their first week of the season proved, the Lady Black Tigers have a lot of work to do.
Falls dropped its first three games of the season. The Lady Black Tigers suffered a 12-2 defeat to Suburban League National Conference rival Brecksville-Broadview Heights Wednesday on the road.
Falls scored its only two runs in the fifth inning.
Carly Hanchin singled and eventually scored on a fielder’s choice by Kaelyn Staple. Anna Steiner, who reached on an error, scored the second run on a run-scoring single by Brooke Waffen.
The Lady Black Tigers lost to conference foe North Royalton Tuesday on the road.
The Lady Bears scored six runs in the first and didn’t look back.
Falls scored its lone run in the sixth.
Janella Farmer led off with a double to deep right-center field. She scored on a single by Hanchin.
The Lady Black Tigers finished with just four hits.
Host Falls lost to conference rival Twinsburg 5-4 last Friday at Harrington Field.
The Lady Tigers scored two runs in the top of the first, but the Lady Black Tigers tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Kylee Phillips drew a one-out walk and Farmer smacked a single to left field. Both Phillips and Farmer scored on a throwing error.
Twinsburg scored three runs in the second, but once again, Falls responded.
The Lady Black Tigers made it 5-4 in the bottom of the second when Jasmine Styer hit a one-out single up the middle and moved to second on an infield single by Waffen.
Annah Bobbitt and Phillips followed with run-scoring singles.
Falls’ silenced the Lady Tigers’ bats for the next three innings as Twinsburg had just two base runners.
However, the Lady Black Tigers couldn’t get the equalizer.
Falls stranded two runners in the third and stranded another runner in the fifth.
The game was called after the fifth inning due to inclement weather.
The Lady Black Tigers are scheduled to entertain National Conference archrival Stow-Munroe Falls Friday at 4:30 p.m.
They are set to host of the Battle of the Falls Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
Falls is set to visit Twinsburg Monday before returning home to play Brecksville Tuesday and conference foe Wadsworth April 19. All three games are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
The Lady Black Tigers are set to entertain Akron Firestone April 21 at 11 a.m.
