Continuing to gain experience, the young Twinsburg girls basketball team used a strong defensive outing to prepare for the postseason in a 63-44 non-league victory over Padua Franciscan.

Twinsburg held the Lady Bruins to just 18 points in the first half of the road contest last Tuesday.

Veteran Tiger head coach Julie Solis has been pleased with the play of versatile sophomore Alana Ellis, who led the Tigers in scoring.

Ellis, a 5-foot-11 wing, scored 16 points against Padua (5-17) to pace all scorers.

Senior forward Trinity Carthen netted 12 points while freshman guard Kayla White scored eight points.

Post Brittany Jolly, a tested senior, scored seven points for Twinsburg and junior guard Nya Bussey had seven, junior forward Kyndall Hill had five points, and juniors Briana Jones and Brittany Williams each had four points.

The Bruins were led by forward Addison Conroy’s 11 points.

Twinsburg, 11-10 overall, recently received the seventh seed for the Euclid Division I District.

"We are getting better at times to control situations and there is still work to do to correct some things," said Solis.

State-ranked Stow-Munroe Falls and Solon were the top two seeds. Cleveland Heights was the third seed, followed by Aurora, Cleveland John Hay, Nordonia, Twinsburg, and Walsh Jesuit.

The Lady Tigers will host 10th seed Hudson (5-15) in first round sectional tournament action Satuday at 1 p.m.

"I think the Euclid district is a pretty strong field with some depth," Solis said. "There are some good teams in this district."

First, Twinsburg must wrap up the regular and league campaigns with a home league test against Nordonia Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The Tigers are 8-5 in the Suburban League National Conference.

If Twinsburg beats Hudson, the Lady Tigers will advance to a sectional final clash at Solon next Thursday at 7 p.m.

Solon is 19-2 and ranked fifth in Ohio’s latest Division I poll. The game would be a rematch of last year’s district championship game in Euclid.
