Aurora -- The Greenmen's Nolan Honsaker was one of 24 divers who competed at the Division II state meet at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton last week.

He finished in 17th place with 223.9 points, but did not make the cut for the finals, although he scored the highest amount of points of those making it to the semifinals but not advancing.

Noah Sterling of University Heights won the state title with 445.05 points, followed by Trent Hagenbuch of Kettering Alter, Austin Penler of Chagrin Falls, Stewart Spanbauer of Summit Country Day and Caleb Keck of Coldwater.

Peter Nachtwey of Chagrin Falls finished in seventh place. Rhys Robbins of Kenston finished 18th, but did not qualified for the finals, while Kyle Wells of West Geauga finished 19th and also did not advance into the finals.

Honsaker said he gives most of the credit for making it to the state diving meet to coach Marc Cahalane.

"It was a great experience [at the state meet]," he said. "I met a lot of great people. I liked that the divers had a sense of camaraderie and all cheered for each other. I hope to be back next year, and am setting my sights on a top 10 finish."
