by Frank AcetoAssociate Sports EditorCuyahoga Falls first-year head girls track and field coach Dan Scourfield knows his team isn't quite deep enough to compete with the elite teams. But he does have some individuals who can compete with anybody. One of them is thrower Lauren Noe, who advanced to a Division I regional meet with a fourth-place throw of 114 feet. Noe advanced May 16 at Ravenna Stadium. The competition was scheduled to continue May 18 in Ravenna. Results were not available at press time.Ariel Akel jumped a season-best 5-2 in the high jump, which tied her for fourth place. Unfortunately, Akel lost in the jump-off and did not advance. The Lady Black Tigers finished seventh with 57 points at the eight-team Western Reserve Conference Meet, which concluded May 10 at Stow-Munroe Falls High School.Solon won the competition with 129.75 points. Twinsburg, which finished 7-0 in the WRC during the regular season, took second with 125.75 points and Hudson placed third with 120 points.Erin Childers scored in four events and was Falls' lone champion. "I was ecstatic for the girls. Most of them had season bests. We're just not as deep as some of those other teams, but we scored in 15 of 17 events."Scourfield believes Noe may have some company at the regional meet, which is scheduled to take place May 23 and 25 at Austintown Fitch High School. The action is set to begin at 4 p.m. both days."Erin can advance in both the 100 and 300 hurdles and Lauren can advance in the shot put," Scourfield said. "Chrissy has a good shot of making it in the 800 and Lindsay can get out in the 1,600. I tell the girls every day is a different day. You can have a really good day and someone else can have a bad day."E-mail: faceto@recordpub.comPhone: 330-686-3914
