HUDSON - William (Bill) Howland Kenney III, age 80, of Hudson passed away in his home July 26, 2020.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Françoise and daughter Melanie.
Bill was a professor of American Studies and History at Kent State University and an avid jazz musician. A pioneering researcher in Jazz Studies, he wrote innovative books such as Jazz on the River, Recorded Music in American Life: The Phonograph and Popular Memory, 1890-1945; Chicago Jazz: A Cultural History, 1904-1930; The Music of James Scott; and Laughter in the Wilderness: Early American Humor to 1783. He was an accomplished clarinetist who played with groups throughout Northeast Ohio and France.
His friends and family remember his warmth, humor, talent, kindness, and generosity.
