Steven Gordon Crotteau

Steven Gordon Crotteau

1977 - 2021

Beloved Son, Brother, Grandson, Nephew, Cousin, and Friend.

Steven Gordon Crotteau passed away at home in Hoboken, New Jersey at the age of 44. Steve was born in Hudson, OH where he spent his childhood years. As a youth, he enjoyed all things sports, including competitive tennis, collecting coins and baseball cards with friends, and going on camping and canoeing trips with his father and family friends. He was a loyal fan of his hometown Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

After graduating with distinction from Hudson High School in 1995, Steve matriculated to Penn State University where he joined the brotherhood of the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity. An avid football fan, Steve enthusiastically joined the ranks of the Nittany Lion faithful in Happy Valley. A mathematically inclined student, Steve found himself drawn to the field, eventually graduating with distinction with a BS in Actuarial Science.

Steve next embarked upon a multi-year quest to become an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA), a process that would have him sit for seven examinations while employed in the financial and insurance industries.

Steve was a gentle soul with a kind spirit. He was generally very quiet, except when it came to his grandmother, with whom he maintained a healthy correspondence over the years. He loved his family and friends deeply. Steve was also a fierce and persistent fighter who battled the disease of alcoholism. A dedicated and faithful participant in AA, Steve celebrated over 20 years of sobriety in his later life - something of which he and his family were rightfully proud. Steve maintained his physical health and focus with ritual 5-mile walks and regular trips to the gym in his beloved Hoboken.

Steven is survived by his parents, Linda Crotteau and Richard Crotteau, his sister Debbie Crotteau Umbach, her husband Heath, his niece Taylor, and nephew Logan. He is also survived by his sister Danielle Crotteau Serna, her husband Victor, and their children Maya, Nina, and Emilio.

A memorial service was held on Sunday, July 18 at Lawton-Turso Funeral Home in Hoboken, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Steve's memory to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) at https://donate.nami.org/sgcrotteau.
