Regis M. Smith
Regis M. Smith, 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 9, 2021.
He will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 54 years, Joan Smith; daughter, Kelly MacIntyre (Jeff MacIntyre) of Leesburg, VA; son, Todd Smith (Laura Yeager Smith) of Hudson, OH; grandchildren; Cailor and Cam MacIntyre, Mekenzie and Paige Smith; step-grandchildren; Sofia and Ben Yeager; brother, Terry L. Smith (Ann Carol Smith); several nieces and nephews.
Regis was born in Canonsburg, PA in 1941, the son of Daniel and Mary Smith. He graduated from McDonald High School in 1959, and served his country in the U.S. Army as a Chief Warrant Officer (243d ASHCo). He was an army pilot of the CH-47 Chinook serving from 1968 to 1969. He earned the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and numerous other awards.
It was 1967, in Wertheim Germany, where Regis met and married Joan Cailor, who was teaching overseas for the D.O.D. Upon his discharge, Regis and Joan raised a family and embarked on building a small business together. They resided in Hudson, Ohio for 23 years after starting and operating Carriage Insurance Agency. His life of service continued in his community where he became President of the Hudson Rotary, a founding member of the Hudson Chamber of Commerce, Volunteer driver for the Hudson EMS, a member of the Hudson Masonry Lodge #510 and spent time helping at his church. Regis and Joan retired to The Villages in 2006, where he enjoyed the warm weather, spending time with family and friends and vacationing all over the world.
In accordance with his wishes, Regis will be cremated and inurned at Arlington National Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held in Hudson, Ohio on July 24th at 11am at the First Congregational Church of Hudson.
