Richard F. Helser, Ph.D, age 89 of Twinsburg, OH passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021. Dick was the beloved husband of Beverlee (nee Rife) for 62 years; devoted father of Lisa (Mike) Purcell, Jill (Frank) Ziegler and Jennifer (Jon) Keller; cherished grandfather of Becca (Ben) Ryan, Christopher (Mickala) Purcell, Emily, Elizabeth & Melanie Keller, Cate & Grace Ziegler; great grandfather of Caroline Ryan with another expected in August; dear son of the late Henry & Florence; brother of the late Charlotte Dahlka and Marilyn Reynolds.
Dick proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He earned degrees from Michigan State University, where he was the president of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, and the University of Michigan. A lifelong educator, Dick began his career as a teacher in 1957, served as a Principal, Assistant Superintendent, and Superintendent in three districts, which included the Twinsburg City Schools from 1980-1986. After retiring from public education, he was an adjunct professor at Franklin University in Columbus. He enjoyed music, telling his life stories, and being with his family. He was a man of deep faith, with a special devotion to Mother Mary.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date at Ss. Cosmas & Damian Catholic Church. Please check www.johnsonromito.com for service information updates. Inurnment with military honors will be held at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
