Richard T. Swartz

Richard T. Swartz died November 22, 2020.

He was born June 28, 1932, in Germantown, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia.

He was raised in Akron, Ohio, and was a graduate of North High School and Kent State University. He served as comptroller of several small firms and then as a church business administrator for West Market Street United Methodist Church of Greensboro, North Carolina. He retired from Roswell United Methodist Church of Atlanta, Georgia, in 1996.

Dick was active in various Masonic organizations. As a teenager, he joined the Temple Chapter Order of DeMolay in Akron, and later served as Master Councilor and received the honorary designations Chevalier and Legion of Honor. He became Worshipful Master of Coventry Lodge #665 in Akron, and was commander in chief of the Akron Commandry of the Akron Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a recipient of the Honorary 33rd degree of Scottish Rite Masonry.

As a retired diaconal minister of the United Methodist Church and member of Westlake United Methodist Church, he worked with the church's Finance Committee, serving for a few years as finance manager.

Dick served as chaplain and treasurer of the Men's Senior Fellowship Club of Elyria, and as president of the Wesleyan Meadows Residence Association. During the twenty years that he lived in Sheffield Village at the Wesleyan Meadows Retirement Community, he helped over thirty United Methodist churches in northern Ohio with their accounting. He recently moved to Hudson, Ohio.

Dick is survived by his wife Carolyn of Hudson, whom he married in March 2020. He also is survived by son Stephen of Paris, France, son Kenneth of Farmington, Michigan, daughter Susan McFeely of East Aurora, New York, and son Timothy of East Greenwich, Rhode Island. He is also survived by brothers John of Largo, Florida, and Jim of Bath, Indiana.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn, sister Barbara, and his parents, Ted and Laura Swartz.

Funeral services will be held at Westlake United Methodist Church when appropriate.
