Florence Mae Yanito
Stow - Florence Mae Yanito, 92, of Stow, passed away peacefully December 9, 2020. Flo was born October 13, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Mae and Stanley Novak.
Flo was a dedicated member of Holy Family Church since 1956 and an active participant in weekly perpetual adoration for decades. Always an active socialite, she was a volunteer seamstress for a local children's charity, and perhaps most widely known in her community as their Avon Lady for over three decades. Her weekly participation at Life Center pool added another social dimension to Flo's life. She enjoyed fellowship with the Stow Sunshiners, swimming with her friends at Life Center Plus, and her Wednesday afternoon movie outing at the Stow Library.
A drummer in high school and a singer in the choir where she met her husband, Flo loved music and dance, particularly Slovenian polkas. She gave her four children an appreciation for it as well with opportunities to study music and let it become a part of their lives. Ever the host for family gatherings, Flo was fully involved and thoroughly engaged in her family's upbringing and adult lives.
Preceded in death by her husband Sam in 1993 and longtime companion Paul Williams in 2015, she is survived by daughters Patt (Breck) Yanito Harper of Stow and Nancy (Bruce) Yanito Jeric of Peninsula, OH; sons Rick (Darlene) Yanito of Richfield, OH and Greg (Anne) Yanito of San Francisco, CA; seven grandchildren Eric, Shannon, Bryan, Drew, Adam, Sarah, and Sammy; ten great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; sister Betty Walters Kollin of Solon, many nephews, nieces, godchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Due to COVID-19 there will be no public services. A celebration of Flo's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northeast Ohio Music Relief Fund to support local musicians and venue staff that have been affected by cancellations and closures related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
