Arthur S. 'Art' Wathey
Aurora - Arthur S. "Art" Wathey, age 85, passed away Friday, December 4 in Aurora, Ohio. Born in Cleveland on January 16, 1935, Art spent his early years in Wellington, Ohio with his beloved parents, Reginald and Hazel Wathey and younger brother, Robert. With characteristic energy and a sense of responsibility, Art worked out horses for harness races, participated in football, basketball and baseball, and assisted his father in maintaining and renovating their home.
Returning to Cleveland, Art graduated from West Technical High School in 1953 and joined LTV Steel, earning numerous promotions and advancing from hourly worker to salaried Assistant General Foreman of Maintenance. A proud and devoted father of five boys, Art attended all of their sports activities, filming games and cheering his sons' achievements. He loved coaching peewee football, encouraging and mentoring the young athletes. He also served in the Naval reserves for three years.
In 1992, Art remarried and moved to Aurora, Ohio where he built a beautiful, sun-filled home with his wife Shelly and began a new career in real estate. He enjoyed playing golf, improving his home, and spending quality time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Shelly; devoted stepson, Anthony; brother Robert; five sons: Mark, Daniel, Allen, Michael, Kevin; and 16 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Art was a kind and gentle soul, a joyous, generous and loving spirit. We will forever miss his sweetness and humor.
An on-line memorial service will be scheduled in the coming weeks for family and friends.
