Marie Ryan Drummond

Marie Ryan Drummond

Hudson - Marie Ryan Drummond (nee Vince) of Hudson, OH passed away peacefully on December 1, 2020. She was a loyal wife, a wonderful mother, foster mother, step-mother, a doting grandmother, a treasured sister and a much loved daughter. Born on Flag Day, June 14, 1931 in Cleveland, Marie was the oldest of five children to Joseph and Alice (Drohan) Vince. She grew up in the old Nottingham neighborhood of Cleveland, attended Villa Angela Academy, and graduated from Collinwood High School. In 1952, Marie married John W. Ryan, Jr. (Jack) and together they became the parents of three children: Michael Ryan (aka radio and television personality Matt Patrick, now deceased), Maureen Ryan Shell and Colleen Ryan Neubauer. In the late 1960's Marie and Jack also became the guardian foster parents of Jack's two nieces Chris Sheekley Downey and Betsy Sheekley Metzger who came to live with them in Cleveland making it a family of seven for a few years. Marie's husband, Jack Ryan, died in 1978 and Marie, already a working mother, carried on with her characteristic feistiness and a spirit of determination as a single parent. She was steadfast working at Fidelity Alarms Company from the 1970's until her retirement in the early 1990's. In 1984, Marie married John P. Drummond, who had five children of his own, and Marie found herself with a growing family. Marie and John eventually built a beautiful home at Walden in Aurora once all of the children were grown. They both became avid golfers at Walden Country Club. Marie was also a passionate gardener and loved going for walks around Walden Pond. Their beautiful home became the the gathering destination for many happy family and holiday celebrations. Over the years, Marie enjoyed traveling to Ireland with her daughter Colleen as well as annual trips to Hilton Head and Florida with John. While on a trip to Italy in 2001, Marie and John were in Venice at the moment of the 9/11 attack and because they were not in a crowded hub city at the time, they made it home to the US without delay. Marie and John eventually moved to Laurel Lake Retirement Community in 2013 where they enjoyed planned activities with other residents as well as quality time with friends and family. They were devoted members of Holy Angels Parish in Bainbridge and then became members of St. Mary's in Hudson. John passed away in early 2020. Marie Ryan Drummond is survived by her daughters, Maureen Ryan Shell of Florida and Colleen Ryan Neubauer (Thomas deceased) of Michigan. Her son Michael Ryan (Paula Parker) passed in 2017. She is also survived by grandchildren Katherine Shell of New York, Elizabeth Shell of Florida, Alexandra Ryan of Arizona, Alanna Ryan of Ohio, Jake Ryan of Texas and Jackson Neubauer of Michigan. She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews as well as John's children. Finally, Marie leaves her beloved sisters, Patricia Vince of Sagamore Hills, Kathleen Rusnak Henderson (James) of Macedonia and dear brother Thomas Vince of Hudson. Another sister, Eileen Vince, passed in 2008. A celebration of life will be offered at St. Mary's Church in Hudson at a later date in Spring of 2021 when the first flowers pop up. Memorials can be donated to the Alzheimer's Association, Chicago, IL or the Humane Society of Summit County. Arrangements by Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, Hudson, OH. www.johnsonromito.com
