Delmer Gene Parker
Delmer Gene Parker was born on November 23, 1932 to Charles C. Parker and Madge Elizabeth Parker. He passed away on October 28, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Parker, and is survived by his daughter, Diana L. Parker of Kent, OH, and his son and daughter-in-law, John C. Parker and Tracy Gosselin of Carrboro, NC.
Gene grew up in Detroit, MI and attended Cass Technical High School. He earned a BS in Electrical Engineering and an MS in Physics at Michigan State University, which remained a beloved place for him all his life. He married his wife Betty in the University chapel, and returned regularly for football games and to gather with friends. After moving to Rochester New York, he worked for General Dynamics, and later for Xerox Corporation, from which he retired as a Principal Scientist with over 50 patents.
Gene was a lifelong learner who was always eager to see and learn new things. After his wife's death in 2006, he moved to Kent, OH. He traveled widely with a variety of traveling companions, visiting Egypt, China, Chile and Argentina, Panama, Scandinavia and Spain over the next decade. When he wasn't overseas, he kept his mind engaged by auditing classes at Kent State University. He was a very sociable person, and enjoyed nothing more than talking with friends and acquaintances and telling stories.
Gene will be buried along with his wife, Betty, at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH. Services will be held at the cemetery at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 25, two days after what would have been his 88th birthday.
Due to his daughter-in-law's profession, Gene became a supporter of the Duke University Friends of Nursing (https://www.gifts.duke.edu/dmaa) and the Oncology Nursing Foundation (https://give.onsfoundation.org/). Donations in his memory can be made to either of these organizations.
