HUDSON —Betty Dempsey (nee Quayle), age 87 of Hudson, OH passed away peacefully Thursday, February 13, 2020, surrounded by family at her home. Betty was the beloved wife of the late Stanley Dempsey; loving mother of Gary (Katarina) Dempsey and Amanda Dempsey; devoted grandmother of Lauren and Lucie Dempsey; dear sister of Kenneth (Pauline) Quayle and the late Ronald (Elaine) Quayle and Mamie (Donald) Chatterton.
Born in Liverpool, England, Betty and her family moved to Hudson in 1971 from Fribourg, Switzerland. Her husband, Stan, was employed as a sales executive in the rubber industry by Polysar and was transferred to Akron to look after the major tire companies such as Goodyear, Goodrich and Firestone.
Betty quickly adapted to life in NE Ohio and was known for her kindness, positive attitude and her infectious smile.
Her involvement in the community included many years at the Country Day School in the old church on the green. She loved being greeted by former students who recognized her when they returned to town.
Above all, she was devoted to her family. As a seasoned traveller, Betty enjoyed her twice yearly pilgrimage to visit her granddaughters in Paris, France. Her adventurous spirit took her to numerous destinations over the years including Marrakesh, Buenos Aires, Fiji, Cape Town, all over the USA and to her favorite villages in the Luberon area of Provence, France.
In Hudson, she was a devoted member of Christ Church Episcopal and was especially known for her beautiful flower arrangements.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Betty's life will be held on Saturday, April 18 at 11 am at Christ Church Episcopal, 21 Aurora St., Hudson, OH 44236. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Betty's name to Christ Church Episcopal and/or the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org.
