MACEDONIA — The city’s police department announced on its Facebook page Friday morning that it will not "at this time" enforce a mandatory mask order the state issued Thursday for Summit County.

"We are not the mask police," states the post. "Please do not call our dispatch center with complaints of subject violating this order. Contact Summit County Public Health. However, businesses do have the right to require persons in their establishments to wear masks. If subjects refuse to abide by the businesses requirements we will enforce trespassing violations."

The phone number for Summit County Public Health is 330- 923-4891.

Gov. Mike DeWine announced Thursday that new public health data has led the Ohio Department of Health to designate 12 counties, including Summit County, as being in a Red Alert Level 3 Public Emergency as defined by the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. Mask mandates for the new counties begin at 6 p.m. on Friday.

"Regardless of which side of this issue you are on it’s not your place to confront someone with the opposite view," Macedonia police said on Facebook. "Just move along. We don't need tempers to flair and add to the hot weather we are experiencing. There's enough going on in the county to be concerned about. Let's not add to it."
