Operating a vehicle
under the influence
Vehicle reported as suspicious: Police said they charged a Mayfield Heights man, 29, in Macedonia Mayor’s Court with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and open container about 6:50 a.m. June 20. Police responded to a report that the man drove into the parking lot of an East Highland Road service station in a damaged vehicle with a missing rear tire and he was acting strangely.
The man said he was driving home from a friend’s home in Wooster when his vehicle blew a tire on Interstate 271 and pulled off the highway. Police said the man’s eyes were watery and bloodshot and there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. A passenger in the vehicle, a 27-year-old Bedford Heights man, was cited with minor misdemeanor drug abuse after a small bag containing suspected marijuana was found in his possession, said police.
Driving under suspension
Vehicle had wrong license plate: Police said they charged a Painesville man, 52, with driving under suspension and fictitious plates after they determined through a random computer check of the man’s license plate number that the plate belonged to a different vehicle and they stopped him on Route 8 southbound at the city’s southern boundary. The man said the vehicle belonged to his girlfriend and he took the plates off another vehicle they own because the truck’s registration was expired.
Gun allegedly brandished: A man was charged in Macedonia Mayor’s Court with first-degree misdemeanor aggravated menacing after another man reported that the man pulled his pickup truck out of a parking lot right in in front of his vehicle on Route 82 by North Bedford Road at about 5:20 p.m. June 17. Police said the man reported the driver then brandished a handgun from the truck’s rear window after the other man was forced to slam on his brakes and hit his vehicle’s horn. Police said they spotted the truck on Route 82 and stopped it after the man turned onto Summer Road. The man immediately notified them that he had the gun, said police, and they verified he had a valid concealed carry permit for it. Police said they released the man from the scene pending an aggravated menacing charge, which was later filed.
Possession of drug
Man found with syringes: Police said they charged a man with first-degree misdemeanor possession of drug abuse instruments possession after they responded to a report the man and a woman with him were acting confused while in a Macedonia Commons Boulevard store during the late afternoon June 11. Police said both were showing signs of meth use. Police said they found the man in possession of syringes. Both were then released.
