Apartment window smashed: The sheriff’s office said it charged a 42-year-old Twinsburg man with fourth-degree felony burglary and misdemeanor criminal damaging and criminal trespassing after a Ray Court woman reported the man was breaking into her apartment by smashing a front window and damaging the screen at about 9 a.m. June 13.
A sheriff’s deputy said that when a deputy arrived, he saw the man standing in the apartment’s front door and then entering it, with the woman standing outside. The deputy said he went to the apartment’s rear door, did not see any movement, then went back to the front and checked the apartment’s first floor. A second deputy arrived and they checked the second floor, but did not find the man. The deputies then searched the surrounding area, but did not find the man.
In a sheriff’s report, the man’s address matches that of the apartment, but the woman said the man had moved out six months earlier. The woman said the man was wanted for previously trespassing at the apartment and the sheriff’s office said it confirmed that.
The man called the sheriff’s office later that morning. He claimed the apartment was still his home, but had run after seeing the deputy arrive because of the previous warrant. He denied breaking the window and damaging the screen.
The sheriff’s office said it made arrangements for the man to come to the office and complete a statement and when he did not, a new warrant was issued for his arrest.
A sheriff’s report did not include a damage estimate.
