The two anchor tenants at Maplecrest in Brimfield — Meijer and Menards — still have not announced opening dates.
According to Jeff Abbott, a spokesman for Menard Inc., the Brimfield store doesn’t yet have a timeline in mind for the opening.
"Construction of our Kent, Ohio Menards home improvement store is ongoing," he said in email sent Tuesday. "With all the uncertainty surrounding the virus these days, no official timeline has been established as to when we might actually be able to open this new store."
Attempts to reach out to Meijer were unsuccessful, but Beth Borda, vice president of commercial development for DeHoff Development Co., which developed the site and is finding lessees for the property, said she hasn’t heard of an opening date for Meijer.
"Meijer was supposed to open May 1 and because of COVID-19 they didn’t open," she said.
She said the Menards store was supposed to open in August, but she hasn’t received a revised date for the opening.
"We were pleased that all the shops have remained open," she said of the existing restaurants at Maplecrest. "Starbucks did close for a brief 30-day period."
In addition to the retail property at the front of the former golf course property, there is 75 acres of shovel-ready industrial property behind the Meijer and Menards stores.
Borda said finding tenants for that area is the next step for Maplecrest.
"There’s been interest, but not one specific business," she said. "It’s still a relatively new shopping center."
