Those who have been in recent contact with several Akron-area businesses are encouraged to be tested for COVID-19 after outbreaks were reported.
According to information from Summit County Public Health posted recently, businesses with reported outbreaks include:
• Advanced Poly Packaging, 1331 Emmitt Road in Akron;
• Akron Foundry, 2728 Wingate Ave. in Akron;
• Allsides, 3223 State Road in Cuyahoga Falls;
• Amazon, 8685 Independence Parkway in Twinsburg;
• Case Farms, 1925 30th St. NE in Canton, and 1818 County Road 160 in Wineburg;
• Newell Brands Rubbermaid, 3200 Gilchrist Road in Mogadore; and
• Spun Fab, 175 Muffin Lane in Cuyahoga Falls.
Marlene Martin, a public information officer with Summit County Public Health, said that any time a facility had two or more cases, the department considers it an outbreak.
The Summit County Public Health does not release numbers of cases from individual facilities with the exception of long-term care facilities, because they are required to report those numbers to health officials under a directive signed in April by the Ohio Department of Health. In the directive, according to information from the governor’s website, data collected by the OHD includes COVID-19 cases broken down by the number of residents and staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 at nursing homes and assisted living facilities listed by facility and county.
Testing will take place June 4, 5 and 7 between 1 and 3 p.m. at the Summit County Public Health department, 1867 W. Market St. in Akron. There is no pre-registration, and no appointment will be needed.
Those who qualify for testing include a contact or association with a contact, such as a family member or a member of the household, associated with the outbreaks.
"This is targeted testing," Martin said. "It’s only for those who worked there, their family and those they were in contact with. You have to be related to someone in one of those facilities, or have been in contact with them."
For testing, be prepared to share name, date of birth, address, phone number and a valid email address; email will be used to communicate test results. Those getting tested also should bring an insurance card if they have it.
