CUYAHOGA FALLS — An Akron man who allegedly claimed that someone shot him in the leg while he was standing in the area of Tallmadge Road and Reed Avenue in the middle of the night May 21 apparently shot himself, Police Lt. Chris Norfolk said Thursday.
"The information we have right now is it actually was a accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound," said Norfolk.
According to a police report, Akron police reported the 18-year-old man was at the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center emergency room for treatment at about 3:45 a.m. and he had told them he had been shot in Cuyahoga Falls. Cuyahoga Falls police then spoke to the man, who told them he had been outside trying to determine if the occupants of a nearby vehicle had been involved in harassing his parents earlier. The man then claimed that an unknown person had shot him in the lower left leg from an undetermined location at around 2 a.m.
Norfolk said that as of Thursday, the man had not been charged.
"The case is still under investigation and the determination on charges has not been made at this point," he said.
