On behalf of retired Fire Chief Wayne Bowen’s family, we would like to express our sincerest gratitude and appreciation to you and the Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department, which recently honored one of its own at our father’s passing.

We would specifically like to thank Chief Fred Jackson, Assistant Chief Chris Martin and Lieutenant Steve Lyons.

In an extreme show of respect and kindness, the Cuyahoga Falls Fire Dept. took exceptional measures to pay tribute to our father, Wayne Bowen. He was proud to have served for 32 years as a firefighter, lieutenant, captain and then fire chief in his city. Although retired for almost as many years, we know how firefighters are bonded as family. This was shown to us by the moving display of actions the members of CFFD took the time to plan, coordinate and deliver with such precision.

From unfurling the American flag from two ladder trucks across Front Street, to the dedication of the honor guard at the calling hours and funeral, the reading of the Last Alarm, the bagpipes playing as his body exited First United Methodist Church carried by firefighter pallbearers, the long processional led by the new Tower 3 truck with Falls and Stow firefighters saluting as our father made his final trip past Station #1. That overwhelming honor and respect shown will forever live in our hearts.

Although we knew and loved him as Dad, we learned he was so much more than that in the eyes of others. We feel extremely honored that he was remembered by such a fine group of men and women, our dedicated firefighters. Thank you for your service and stay safe.

The Family of Wayne S. Bowen
