Giant Eagle Inc. has temporarily converted its supermarket on Howe Avenue in Cuyahoga Falls into a fulfillment center for curbside pickup and delivery services.
Giant Eagle said the conversion is expected to "significantly" increase its ability to fulfill curbside pickup and delivery orders in upcoming weeks as people shelter at home because of the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak.
"As consumer demand for grocery pickup and delivery options continues to increase, we are exploring every opportunity to change how we do business to make our products available to as many of our guests as possible today, tomorrow and in the future," Giant Eagle spokesperson Jannah Jablonowski said in a news release. "This temporary store transition will enable us to dramatically increase our capacity to take and fulfill curbside pickup and delivery orders for the surrounding Akron and Canton communities."
Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle said it is looking to make similar conversions elsewhere in Northeast Ohio and its other territories.
The store will fulfill next-day pickup and delivery orders 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Payments are processed online to reduce contact between customers and employees.
