Six Cuyahoga Falls High School artists took home awards in the 2020 Northeast Central Ohio Scholastic Art Competition.

The judges awarded Gold Keys to 15 of the 89 total portfolio entries and Silver and Gold Keys to 360 of the 3,177 individual entries submitted. Gold and Silver award winners’ artwork were on display at the Conference Center at Kent State University at Stark in January, and the artists were recognized in an award ceremony at the university on Jan. 25.

Those receiving awards included:

• Chelsea Sokira - Honorable Mention;

• Anna Leon - Silver Key;

• Marjorie Spinner - Silver Key and Honorable Mention;

• Logan Webb - Gold Key;

• Katie Spinner - Gold Key and Silver Key; and

• Natalie Huryn with five Gold Keys, three Silver Keys, and a Best in Show Portfolio, with Artworks. Her portfolio was also nominated for the National American Vision Award which will determine a winner on a national level.

According to information from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards website, awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. Through the awards, those ages 13 and up from public, private, or home schools can apply in 29 categories of art and writing for their chance to earn scholarships and have their works exhibited and published. Beyond the Awards, the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers produces a number of programs to support creative students and their educators, including the Art.Write.Now.Tour, the National Student Poets Program, the Scholastic Awards Summer Workshops and Scholastic Awards Summer Scholarships programs, the GOLDEN Educators Residency, and more.
