The Stow Municipal Court has announced it is taking some measures in light of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation.
All jury trials for criminal and civil matters will be suspended until further notice, unless a person’s Constitutional right to a speedy trial is in jeopardy.
Court staff will be working with city prosecutors, the public defender’s office, and members of the legal community to minimize the volume of in-person hearings taking place at the courthouse for at least the next few weeks. The court is working to expand telephonic and video conferencing options for remote hearings.
All evening Community Control educational programs have been postponed to a later date. Community Control Department staff has already begun contacting participants to advise them of the postponements.
The Clerk of Court’s Office will remain open to receive new filings and to receipt payments as usual. The public is encouraged to utilize the online payment and e-filing options as much as possible to limit unnecessary trips into the courthouse.
