NORTHFIELD – The position of finance assistant is now full time, and Shannon Conway holds that position, after Village Council approved two pieces of legislation last month.

Conway took over as finance assistant on a part-time basis in January 2019, and was appointed to the full-time position effective Jan. 13 by Mayor Jesse Nehez. She will be paid $21.53 per hour.

Conway will be entitled to paid holidays, and her appointment is subject to a one-year probationary period as outlined in the village charter.

The approved ordinance establishing the full-time position outlines the duties of the position as follows: Performing various tasks for the finance director, processing purchase orders and accounts payable and receivable, acting when the finance director is not available, assisting the finance director with human resources and personnel matters, conducting sewer maintenance fee billing, preparing minutes and assisting residents at Village Hall.

The legislation making the finance assistant position full-time and confirming the mayor’s appointment of Conway were the only measures on which Council acted Jan. 8.

In other business, Councilman Nick Magistrelli was re-elected president of Council, and Nehez was named the village’s representative to the Northfield-Macedonia Cemetery Board.

Councilman Gary Vojtush informed his colleagues that the village has the opportunity to acquire playground equipment from the Parma school district. He said a school is being razed, and the equipment is available to an entity which will remove it. He urged his colleagues to take a look at the equipment and consider acquiring it for local parks.

Councilman Alan Hipps suggested Council look into budgeting for the purchase of iPads for each Council rep to eliminate the need for large printed meeting packets. "Our paper packets are sometimes quite thick, and eliminating them would reduce printing costs," he said.
