Harmon Middle School and Hudson Middle School are two of the three middle schools that will advance to the state MATHCOUNTS competition in Columbus on March 7 after they competed in February at the annual Akron area MATHCOUNTS competition.

In addition, two students from R.B. Chamberlin Middle School in Twinsburg also were among six selected to compete individually at the state competition next month. James Ding and Muhammad Atif will go to Columbus to compete in the mathematics competition for sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.

The 37th annual Akron are MATHCOUNTS was at The University of Akron. There were 136 middle-school students who participated, from 19 middle schools in Summit, Medina, Portage and Cuyahoga counties. Students compete in a series of individual, team, written and oral math tests. The top three teams and the top six individuals in the Akron competition move on to the state competition in Columbus on March 7. Top individuals in the state competition advance to the national competition in Orlando Fla., May 9 through 12.
