With nearly 200 rescued pets available for adoption at the Humane Society of Summit County, the shelter is inviting adopters to its upcoming "Name Your Own Price" Adoption Event on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The agency is located at 7996 Darrow Road in Twinsburg.

Adoption fees normally range from $20 for senior cats to $175 for puppies, but higher demand for services has resulted in a surplus of animals in need of loving homes. With application approval, adopters will be asked to make a contribution that they are comfortable with as the adoption fee for their new adopted family member.

"Our adoption center has filled up over the past few months as more and more animals need our help. Our busiest time, spring and summer, is right around the corner, so we need our community now more than ever to open their hearts and homes to our homeless animals," says Director of Operations Kristin Branagan. "Pet adoption has double the impact – when you give a pet a home, there is now space and resources available for another animal in need of our lifesaving services and a second chance at our shelter."

The Humane Society of Summit County is a no-time limit shelter, caring for nearly 2,600 animals each year. It focuses on animals most in need: victims of cruelty, neglect, and abandonment and strays suffering from illness or injury.

The organization provides a full range of veterinary services to rehabilitate and care for animals with serious medical needs and also employs Humane Officers to enforce laws protecting animals from abuse and offers behavioral support and training to socialize pets and help them be successful in their new home environments.

All HSSC animals are up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations and preventative treatments, are spayed or neutered, and microchipped prior to adoption.

Adoption counselors work with interested adopters to help identify animals who are a good fit for their home and family. Adoptable animals can be viewed online at www.summithumane.org/adopt or by visiting the shelter during adoption hours: 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The shelter is closed to adoptions on Monday.
