Suspicions

Driver was employee: Police said that after they responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot outside the Mulberry Gardens assisted living facility at about 3:45 a.m. Dec. 10, they determined the woman in the vehicle is an employee of the facility.

Vehicle was disabled: Police said that after they stopped to investigate when they saw a vehicle in a parking lot in South Main Street’s 100 block at about 1:10 a.m. Dec. 5, the driver told them the vehicle’s steering was not working properly. Police said the woman got a ride from a friend and arranged to have the vehicle removed.

Failure to comply

Men fled from police: Police said they charged a Coventry Township man, 32, with misdemeanor failure to comply with police, theft, obstructing official business, driving under suspension, operation of vehicle at stop signs, and failure to control after he crashed his vehicle while fleeing from police following an alleged shoplifting incident at a store in Kent Road’s 4200 block during the early afternoon Dec. 9.

A passenger in the vehicle, a 31-year-old Barberton man, was charged with fifth-degree felony theft and misdemeanor obstructing official business and drug abuse instruments possession.

Police said they responded to a report that the Barberton man left the store without paying for clothing and shoes totaling a little over $1,000 in value and the Coventry man left without paying for clothing and shoes totaling about $620 in value. Police said they pursued the men east on Kent Road and then south on Deidrick Road until it went through a stop sign at North River Road and crashed into a ditch on the south side of North River. Police said no injuries were reported and both men ran on foot, but were caught. A syringe was found in the Barberton man’s possession, said police. He was taken to Summit County Jail and the Coventry man was taken to Macedonia City Jail. The vehicle was damaged but functioning, said police.

Theft

Woman reports loan scam: A Stow woman reported Nov. 29 that someone claiming to work for a loan company defrauded her out of $800 in gift cards and charged about $700 to her cell phone account since the beginning of October.

Ladder taken from home: A man reported Nov. 29 that someone stole a ladder of unspecified value from outside his home in Silver Springs Drive’s 2400 block since the evening before.

Woman defrauded: A Stow woman reported Nov. 27 that someone posing as a customer service representative for a technology company defrauded her out of gift cards totaling $1,000 in value.
