NORTHFIELD – Village Council confirmed the appointment of Hinckley resident Jennifer Potvin as the village’s new finance director/clerk of council on Dec. 11.

Potvin assumed the 40-hour-per-week position Dec. 9 at a salary of $78,000 per year, replacing Tricia Ingrassia.

Potvin earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, with a major in accounting. She is a certified public accountant, and has 20 years of municipal finance experience in several communities in Illinois.

She started her career in 1989 as assistant to the administrator of the village of West Dundee, then served as finance director in Cary, Roselle and Wood Dale. She then was an accounting manager for the Kane County Department of Employment and Education and assistant finance director for Kane County.

Ingrassia resigned effective Nov. 8, although she assisted with the transition and continued to process the payroll until Nov. 29. In her Oct. 10 resignation notice to Mayor Jesse Nehez, Ingrassia said she talked to the mayor in September about her intention to resign.

Law Director Brad Bryan said the village’s charter requires that the finance director be full-time. "Due to personal and family reasons, Ingrassia no longer wanted to be employed in a full-time position," he said.

Ingrassia was hired part time in November 2013 to assist in the finance director’s office, and served as interim finance director for a short time. She was hired as the finance director in December 2015.
