STREETSBORO — A 59-year-old Cleveland man was killed and three others were injured in a crash Wednesday morning on Route 14 between Lake Rockwell and Diagonal roads, according to Streetsboro police.

A 911 call to police at about 6:59 a.m. reported a two-car crash in the 8200 block of Route 14. Officers and emergency medical crews were sent to the scene where they found a 2009 Chevy Silverado and a 2001 Teal Toyota Echo had been involved in a head-on crash causing catastrophic damage to the Echo and heavy damage to the Silverado.

A preliminary investigation showed the driver of the Echo, Tyrone Taylor, 59, of Cleveland, was westbound on Route 14 when he crossed left of center into the path of the eastbound Silverado. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Silverado, 34-year-old Matthew Cunningham from Ravenna, was taken to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center for a possible ankle fracture, according to information from the Streetsboro Police Department and the Streetsboro Fire Department.

In the Echo, the front-seat passenger, Alora Still, 46, of Youngstown was taken to the same hospital for a traumatic chest injury. A rear seat passenger in the Echo, Dwayne Vaughters, 36, of Cleveland, was extricated from the Echo and treated for traumatic injuries to his right leg.

Route 14 was closed between Diagonal and Price roads for nearly three hours while emergency crews were on the scene.

The crash is under investigation.

Members of the Summit Metro Crash Team, the Portage County Coroner’s Office and the Portage County Prosecutor’s Office responded to the scene. Ravenna Township Fire assisted Streetsboro Fire in medical treatment.
