Two people were arrested Tuesday after a short car chase and a search for the occupants of a 2015 Ford Focus reported stolen out of Cleveland.
According to the Aurora Police Department, an employee of Polo Ralph Lauren asked the Aurora Police Department for a walkthrough at the store after several individuals took merchandise to the counter and asked the clerk to hold it for them.
Aurora police ran the plate number on the car they got into, a 2015 Ford Focus, and it came back as stolen. The driver was reportedly ordered to turn off the car and instead accelerated and drove away. After a short chase was terminated because of icy roads, officers located the vehicle in a ditch unoccupied.
Four of the five suspects were located, and a fifth was later found. All were taken into custody. Two Cleveland men, Robert B. Moore, 18, of 1357 E. 94th St., and Damien Higgins, 18, of 7305 E. 72nd Street, Cleveland, were arrested and charged.
The Aurora Police Department said a 17-year-old Cleveland girl and two more 17-year-old Cleveland boys were arrested
According to Aurora Police, one of the juveniles was found to have the driver’s license, library card and debit cards of the woman whose car was stolen as well as credit cards and a debit card belonging to another person.
All of the suspects were charged with receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony. Another male juvenile was charged with receiving stolen property, a fifth-degree felony, for the driver’s license and credit cards.
The two adults were taken to the Portage County jail and are being held on a $25,000 bond, according to court records. The three juveniles were taken to the Portage County Juvenile Detention Center, which is on the same road as the jail but in a separate facility.
