STOW – City Council recently recognized a firefighter for obtaining $1.5 million in federal and state funds in a 10-year span with a proclamation presented by Mayor John Pribonic.

Firefighter Lt. Jeff Cochran began writing grants in 2009 and the fire department received $789,441 in federal grants in 2010 that allowed the city to hire additional firefighters and in 2011 a $34,000 grant provided four thermal imaging cameras and a new rescue saw. In 2012 a federal grant for $128,439 paid for new cardiac monitors. Cochran's talent for grant writing led to more funds for equipment to make firefighters safer and to protect Stow's citizens, according to the city.

So far the grants total $1.5 million.
