Burglary

Bikes stolen from garages: Two men living near each other reported someone stole bicycles from their open attached garages around mid-October.

A man reported someone stole his approximately $1,500 bicycle from his garage in Westwood Circle’s 100 block during the afternoon Oct. 18. The man said he was home at the time of the theft and the bike hung from hooks in the garage and could be seen by anyone walking by his home.

Another man reported someone stole his approximately $100 bicycle from his garage while he was taking a walk during the early evening Oct. 14.

Theft

Relative reports money stolen: A 22-year-old Akron man was charged with misdemeanor theft after one of his relatives told police Oct. 18 that the man stole $380 from him while staying at the relative’s Tallmadge home during the previous week. Police said the man was at the home when they responded and he admitted to taking the money. He was summoned to appear in Stow Municipal Court, released from the scene and, at the relative’s request, told not to return to the home, said police.

Contractor charged: An Akron man, 49, was charged with misdemeanor theft after a Tallmadge man reported Oct. 17 that he gave the Akron man a $700 check two months earlier as a deposit on contracting work at the Tallmadge man’s home that was never done. Police said the Tallmadge man confirmed through a bank that the check was cashed on Aug. 15, the day the Tallmadge man wrote it and gave it to the Akron man. The Tallmadge man said he had not heard from the Akron man since then. Police said that after they were unable to contact the Akron man by phone and at his home, an arrest warrant was issued for him.
