LAKEMORE — A Cuyahoga Falls man died Sunday from injuries he sustained when he was struck by a vehicle several days earlier in the village, the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office said in a press release Monday.
The ME’s office said 66-year-old Robert Ward was crossing near the Canton and Sanitarium roads intersection when he was struck by a vehicle traveling north on Canton Road at about 6:45 a.m. Thursday. He was taken to Akron City Hospital, where he died early Sunday afternoon.
In a press release also issued Monday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the driver of the 2014 Chevrolet car, a 58-year-old woman, was taken to Akron Summa in Green for medical attention. Alcohol is not a suspected factor in the crash, the patrol said.
"All that we know is [Ward] was at the Getgo gas station, had purchased some items, and it was very dark out and he crossed the roadway and the cars going north and south had the green light and he walked in front of a car," Trooper Tara Worner said on Monday.
Worner said the investigation is still pending and no charges or citations have been filed.
