The following is a sampling of cases recently filed in Stow Municipal Court. It is not intended to be all-inclusive.
A 38-year-old Medina man was charged Sept. 27 with domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor. According to the complaint, the man allegedly grabbed a female household member by her arm, dragged her across the floor and took a cell phone from her. He was released on a $1,500 recognizance bond and a protection order was issued.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of a 55-year-old Stow resident Oct. 1 for failure to appear in court Sept. 30 on a minor misdemeanor charge of drug paraphernalia possession. According to the complaint, the man was found to be in possession of a glass marijuana pipe Sept. 26 near the 2nd Street/Route 8 interchange.
A 38-year-old resident was charged Sept. 27 with two fifth-degree felony counts of theft, following a Sept. 15 incident. According to the complaint, she allegedly stole a wallet containing a credit card belonging to another woman. She was also charged with misuse of a credit card, a first-degree misdemeanor, after she allegedly used the card to make a purchase at the Circle K on State Road. A warrant was issued.
A 21-year-old Ravenna man pleaded not guilty Sept. 30 to a minor misdemeanor charge of possession of drugs. According to the complaint, he was found to be in possession of "a small baggie of weed concealed in a cup" in the vicinity of Portage Trail and 13th Street around 8 p.m. on Sept. 24.
A 27-year-old Akron man was charged Sept. 27 with possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. According to the complaint, it was determined he had been in possession of methamphetamine in his pants pockets on July 29, when he was charged with criminal trespass, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, and minor misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Police said he was allegedly trespassing at apartments in the vicinity of State Road and Maitland Avenue. He is wanted on a warrant for failure to appear in court Aug. 1.
An 18-year-old Hudson woman pleaded guilty to minor misdemeanor paraphernalia possession Oct. 1 and was sentenced to pay a fine of $150, plus costs of $156. According to the complaint, she was found in possession of a marijuana pipe Sept. 28 around 6:40 p.m. near Lincoln Avenue and 6th Street.
A 23-year-old Akron woman was found guilty Sept. 30 of misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and criminal trespass following an incident on Sept. 29. According to the complaint, she had a "screaming fit" and resisted officers who attempted to arrest her when she was found trespassing on AMHA property on Prange Drive. Total fines were $1,000, of which $800 was suspended. Total fines and costs were $488 and she was ordered to never return to the property.
A 37-year-old Wadsworth man was charged Sept. 30 with possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, and receiving stolen property, a first-degree misdemeanor. According to complaints, he was found near Portage Trail and Billman Place on Sept. 30 around 3 a.m. with about 1 gram of methamphetamine. The complaint said police found a digital scale allegedly stolen from "Children’s Hospital" in the trunk of his car. Bond was set at 10% of $2,500.
A 50-year-old resident pleaded not guilty Oct. 1 to a minor misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. According to the complaint, he had been fighting on Front Street Sept. 21 at around 1:25 a.m. He had posted a $250 bond in mayor’s court.
A 31-year-old Cleveland man was charged Oct. 2 with domestic violence/menacing, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. According to the complaint, the man on Oct. 1 allegedly forced open the locked front door to a residence after telling a female occupant "that he felt like he could hurt her. A warrant was issued and a motion requesting a protection order was filed.
A 26-year-old Solon man was charged with improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle Sept. 27. He was released on a $10,000 recognizance bond. According to the complaint, the man was found passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle on the roadway. Police said they found a loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun under his seat.
Sagamore Hills Township
A 47-year-old township resident was found guilty of disorderly conduct, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, on Sept. 27. According to the complaint, the man was engaged in a verbal altercation with his minor child, which caused a passerby to call 911 on April 30. He was fined $250, of which $150 was suspended, and sentenced to 30 days in jail, with 28 days suspended. Community control of 12 months was also ordered, which includes a fee of $625. Total fines, fees and costs were $1,013.
A 35-year-old Kent man was charged Sept. 30 with a first-degree misdemeanor count of OVI — third offense, misdemeanor driving under suspension, and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, a fifth-degree felony. According to complaints, the man was stopped on Graham Road Sept. 28 around 9 p.m. He pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charges and was released on a 10% of $10,000 bond.
A 51-year-old Warrensville Heights woman was charged with a minor misdemeanor open container violation Sept. 28 after she was stopped on Route 8 southbound at Steels Corners Road around 7 p.m. A warrant was issued Oct. 1.
A 32-year-old Akron man was charged with criminal simulation, a first-degree misdemeanor, possession of drug abuse instruments, a second-degree misdemeanor, and a fourth-degree misdemeanor charge of related to a BB gun inside his vehicle. According to the complaints, police stopped him on Route 8 and Graham Road for a moving violation and a police dog was called to check his vehicle. Police found a fake $100 bill, suspected drugs, two hypodermic needles, and a BB gun readily accessible. He was released on a $2,500 recognizance bond.
A 56-year-old resident was charged Oct. 1 with menacing by stalking, a first-degree misdemeanor, and public indecency, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. He was released on a $500 recognizance bond. According to the stalking complaint, he allegedly caused another person mental distress by means of a communication "with a sexual motivation" on or around Sept. 26. The indecency complaint states the man was seen on video exposing his private parts outside his apartment complex.
A 32-year-old Warren man and a 28-year-old Vermilion man were charged Sept. 27 with aggravated possession of drugs, second-degree, and fifth-degree felonies, respectively. According to complaints, the Warren man was found to be in possession of around 29 grams of methamphetamine and the Vermillion man found to be in possession of around 1 gram of methamphetamine in the vicinity of Southeast Avenue at Williams Road around 1 a.m. on Sept. 26. Bond was set at 10% of $50,000 for the Warren man and the Vermillion man was released on a $10,000 recognizance bond. The Vermillion man also pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor paraphernalia charge.
A 52-year-old Maple Heights woman was charged with possession of drugs and aggravated possession of drugs, both fifth-degree felonies, Sept. 30. According to the complaints, police found her on Ravenna Road June 18 with a plastic bag containing cocaine on the driver’s seat of her vehicle and a plastic bag of heroin in her bra. She was also charged with a misdemeanor count of paraphernalia possession. A warrant was issued.
