HUDSON — New iPads at the middle school and a new website are two of the highlights for the 2019-20 school year.

The new school year, which begins Aug. 14 for most Hudson school district students, features "a number of initiatives that will standout during the next school year," said Sheryl Sheatzley, manager of communications and alumni outreach.

"The facilities projects will be ongoing throughout next year, with the renovation of Natatorium planned for completion by Jan. 1, 2020," Sheatzley said. "We have completed our Portrait of a Graduate, which we will be sharing soon with staff, parents and community. This Portrait helps show our parents and community what guiding principals we will be using to help develop our Explorers both today and in the future."

Also, middle school students will start using iPads in place of Chromebooks, Sheatzley said.

"Both staff and students will go through training and/or professional development to be able to work within the Apple Classroom and beyond," Sheatzley said. "We are very excited about the creativity, innovation, and resources that will be available to our students."

Those visiting the school district's website will notice a number of changes, Sheatzley said.

"We are excited about the convenience of the design for our users," she said. "This will continue to be a work in progress throughout next year as we best determine where our content needs to be located for easy access. One of the features we are very excited about is the use of streaming video on the site. Right now we have a ship circling as if waiting for our students to arrive in August. Starting this school year, parents will be able to complete their back-to-school student forms online in both Final Forms and Home Access Center."

In addition, Sheatzley said the district "will go through a strategic planning process that will again address the key areas and goals of the district for the next several years."
