A total of 17 hopefuls have filed petitions with the Summit County Board of Elections to run for 12 elected positions on the Nov. 5 ballot.

All but two individuals filed to meet a 4 p.m. Wednesday deadline, with petitions subject to Board of Elections certification.

Twinsburg Mayor Ted Yates and Ward 2 Council Member Brian Steele filed earlier this year to run for mayor during the May primary. As the only two running for mayor on the primary ballot, Steele will challenge Yates for the next term, which begins Dec. 1.

Meanwhile, Forest Lake Drive resident Michael Turle will challenge Bill Furey for Furey’s council-at-large seat; Crestwood Drive resident Tim Clark will challenge Ward 1 Council incumbent Sam Scaffide; and Cannon Road resident Laurie Sasala Facsina will challenge Ward 3 Council incumbent Jo-Ann McFearin.

Waldo Way resident Daisy Walker is the lone filer for Steele’s Ward 2 seat. The new Council terms all begin Dec. 1.

In Reminderville, incumbent Mayor Sam Alonzo is the lone filer for his position and Rodney Wiggins and Herrington Drive resident Thomas DiCarlo are the filers for two Council seats currently held by Wiggins and Ernie Petrovich. Petrovich is not on a list of filers released by the Board of Elections. The new terms for the mayor and council positions begin Dec. 1.

In Twinsburg Township, Trustee James Balogh and Fiscal Officer Tania Johnson are the lone filers for their respective positions. The next trustee term begins Jan. 1 and the next fiscal officer term begins April 1.

There are two seats open on the Twinsburg City School Board. If all petitions are certified, incumbent Board Vice President Matt Cellura and incumbent Board Member Mark Curtis will face challenger Adrienne Gordon.

Voters must be registered by Oct. 7 in order to vote in the Nov. 5 election. Early in-office voting begins Oct. 8. Complete voter information, including local polling locations, can be found at www.summitcountyboe.com
