The Akron Pops Orchestra, a full string orchestra comprised of about 55 musicians, will perform at 7:30 p.m. July 25 at Community Vineyard Church, 2545 State Road, Cuyahoga Falls.
The orchestra performs a wide variety of musical genres including light classical, show tunes, waltzes, marches and more. All members are volunteer musicians that are dedicated to providing enjoyment to the community by sharing the gift of music.
In 1926, a group of area physicians came together to form the Akron Doctor’s Orchestra to share their musical talent with the community. As time went on, musicians from all walks of life joined the orchestra, diversifying its membership. In 1986, the orchestra’s name was changed to the Akron Pops Orchestra, a non-profit organization.
The Akron Pops grew for many years under the direction of the late Hans Gartner who conducted into his 90s. In 2007, Associate Conductor Kristan Crane became the musical director. Crane is a retired music educator and formerly played French horn in the Tuscarawas Symphony and the Akron Pops Orchestra.
