KENT — The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Portage County until 6 p.m. this evening.
According to information from the NWS, at 4:55 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Massillon, or nine miles west of Canton, moving east at 30 mph.
Communities under the alert include Canton, Ravenna, Massillon, Kent, Green, Alliance, Tallmadge, North Canton, Streetsboro, Louisville, Mogadore, Minerva, Hartville,Garrettsville, Brewster, Navarre, Brimfield, Canal Fulton, Randolph and Atwater.
According to the NWS, those in the warning area should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building due to this storm producing destructive winds, with gusts recorded at 70 mph, and half-dollar-sized hail.
Summit County is one of 24 counties under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 9 p.m.
