TALLMADGE — People wishing to rent out city facilities to host events will soon be able to pay a fee that would allow them to enter the buildings sooner to begin setting up.

City Council on May 9 unanimously approved establishing early entry fees for people renting a hall at the community center ($50 per hour for early entry on weekdays), Ritchie Hall ($30 per hour for early entry on weekdays and weekends), and the Historic Church ($100 per hour for early entry on weekdays and weekends).

The weekend early entry fee of $100 per hour for a community center hall is already in place.

"The early entry fees were added based on inquiries we often get from renters to enter the facility before their rental time [window] to set up," said service director Michael Rorar.

He added the renter can enter the facility as early as they wish as long as it is not being used by another renter.

Council also adopted a policy stating organizations that offer training sessions that benefit the parks and recreation department will be allowed to use a recreation center room at no cost in exchange for permitting recreation center instructors to enroll for free in those training sessions. The previous rental rate that was being charged for training sessions was $50 per hour.

"By offering free rentals for trainings at the rec center, we hope to encourage organizations to offer trainings here and that we can recruit new instructors/new classes from the groups enrolled," explained Rorar. "Most other facilities offer the organizations free use of their facility for these trainings in exchange for discounts for that facility’s instructors, staff and members and in the hopes that these newly trained instructors will teach at their facility after they are certified. This is our goal."

The new rates and policy take effect July 1.
