MACEDONIA — Many of the cast from Nordonia High School’s production of "The Wizard of Oz" will be following the road to the Connor Palace stage May 18 to participate in the Dazzle Award ceremonies.

The production was recently nominated for four Dazzle awards, recognition given to area high school productions: Best Musical, Best Orchestra, Best Ensemble/Chorus and Best Choreography Execution.

"As a Best Musical nominee, we will be performing the Jitterbug number on the Connor Palace stage," said Director Chris Simmons.

Dazzle Awards will be presented to outstanding musical theater productions and students in 14 categories, including the "Spirit of the Dazzle Awards" category, awarded to the student who most embodies camaraderie, passion and an infectiously positive attitude throughout rehearsal week as identified by the Dazzle Awards creative team. The Best Actor and Best Actress will represent Northeast Ohio at The Jimmy Awards at the Minskoff Theatre in New York in June.

As part of a new technical theater apprenticeship, two students will have the opportunity to shadow the Dazzle Awards lighting and sound designers, observe the creative process with the director/choreographer and music director and apply their skills with the stage management team.

Public and private high schools in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit counties were invited to apply for participation in the Dazzle Awards. Other area nominees include:

• Aurora High School, Best Technical Execution; Best Featured Performer for Logan Jancsurak as Narrator/Mysterious Man; Best Supporting Actor for Drew Albrecht as Rapunzel’s Prince, and for Johnny Kushan as Cinderella’s Prince/Wolf; Best Actress for Hannah Kulawiak as The Witch, "Into the Woods"
