Police were led on a short pursuit after a call regarding a theft that turned into a high-speed chase on Monday, Macedonia Police Lt. Vince Yakopovich said.
At approximately 2:10 p.m., the police department responded to a man allegedly attempting to shoplift around $1,200 worth of power tools from the Home Depot in the Macedonia Commons, Yakopovich said. Upon seeing police, the suspect holding the tools ran for a waiting getaway car, which took off before he could reach it. He was arrested immediately at the scene.
A high-speed chase ensued on state Route 8 and went westbound on Valley View Road. Northfield Village and Sagamore Hills police departments were briefly involved in the pursuit. The car overturned on the border between Sagamore Hills and the village of Valley View. The driver of the car and the passenger were transported to the hospital with what he believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, Yakopovich said.
The suspect will be charged with felony theft, Yakopovich said. Police said the accused getaway driver will likely be charged with several traffic violations, felony flea and looting. The passenger will likely not be charged, Yakopovich said. It is possible additional charges may by added.
