BRECKSVILLE — The Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail between Boston Mills and Highland roads is now open. It had been closed to install an upgraded culvert, allowing Stanford Run to flow under the trail to the Cuyahoga River.
The culvert replacement is part of an ongoing ecosystem restoration project that reconnects this tributary (Stanford Run) to the Cuyahoga River. The project is led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency provided funds for this work through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, and the project has been closely coordinated with the National Park Service — Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
CVNP encompasses 33,000 acres along the Cuyahoga River between Cleveland and Akron, Ohio. Managed by the National Park Service, CVNP combines cultural, historical, recreational, and natural activities in one setting. For more information visit www.nps.gov/cuva or call 330-657-2752.
