The Stow-Munroe Falls City School District’s treasurer has been notified her contract, expiring this summer, will not be renewed.

A unanimous vote by the board of education following a lengthy executive session approved a resolution stating "the employment contract of Kristy Stoicoiu as Treasurer shall not be renewed at its expiration."

Stoicoiu’s contract expires July 31; she was hired in May of 2017 with a two-year contract. Her salary is $92,000 annually.

No reasons were given by any board members for the decision to non-renew. When contacted, board president Kelly Toppin said the board had no comment on the decision and added no reasons were being offered publicly "at this time" for the non-renewal.

Stoicoiu did not respond for a request for comment by press time.

A review of her personnel file shows no disciplinary notes and the last evaluation was completed in 2017 when she was then assistant treasurer. That evaluation, and one done in 2016, indicated she received "accomplished or skilled" ratings in all categories.

The personnel file did not include an evaluation for 2018 for her position as treasurer; her contract as treasurer calls for the board to "annually evaluate the Treasurer by conducting no less than one Executive Session at either a regular or special meeting of the Board for the express purpose of discussing her performance as the Board's Treasurer prior to any action by the Board as to a subsequent term of the Treasurer's contract."

When asked about the status of a 2018 evaluation, Toppin said the board had begun an evaluation but it was decided not to be completed once the decision to non-renew was made.

No search for a new treasurer has been decided, but Toppin said that would be included in an executive session discussion at Monday’s work session at 5 p.m. in the district’s central offices.
