Receiving stolen property

Gun reported stolen: A 26-year-old Akron woman was charged with fourth-degree felony receiving stolen property after an employee of a store in West Avenue’s 200 block reported the woman’s purse had been found with a pistol and a large amount of cash in it Jan. 31. The woman returned to the store to retrieve her purse shortly after police arrived. Police said they unloaded the 9 mm pistol and confirmed through a computer check of its serial number that it had been reported stolen in Rittman. The woman said the money totaled about $1,600. She was taken to Cuyahoga Falls City Jail.


Woman reports being followed: A Tallmadge woman reported a vehicle had been following her around the city and other vehicles had also followed her Jan. 30.

Tampering with evidence

Marijuana thrown from vehicle: An Akron man, 43, was charged with third-degree felony tampering with evidence and misdemeanor obstructing official business, marijuana possession and marked lanes after police stopped his vehicle on Interstate 76 at about 3:10 p.m. Jan. 29. Police said that after they stopped his vehicle, the man drove off and they saw him throw a bag out of the vehicle’s window. The man stopped again a short distance away and police said that when they recovered the bag, they found a small amount of suspected marijuana in it. The man was taken to Summit County Jail.


Money taken from account: A bank investigator reported Jan. 7 that she is investigating after it was discovered someone withdrew $3,600 from an elderly Tallmadge woman’s savings account sometime in 2018.
